DR. ANDRÉS FELIPE SANTANDER-SYR

Paris Sud-Orsay, IN2P3/CNRS, France.

Prof. Andrés Felipe Santander-Syro has made significant contributions to the understanding of the electronic structure and electron behavior in correlated-electron systems and quantum materials. For instance, his discovery and work on the two-dimensional electron gas at the surface of SrTiO3, as detailed in his highly cited 2011 Nature publication, has been pivotal in the field of oxide electronics. Prof. Santander-Syro’s research extends to the study of superconductivity (momentum-dependence of the superconducting gap in electron-doped cuprates and iron-arsenides), functional oxides (study of the interplay between electronic structure and magnetism in the 2D electron systems at the surface of functional oxides), topological materials, or heavy-fermion systems (study of the electronic structure and symmetries of the order parameter in the "hidden-order" transition in URu2Si2). Recently, his research has focused on the study of the electronic structure of the metal-to-insulator transition, one of the most fundamental open problems in Condensed-Matter Physics. Prof. Santander-Syro’s work is characterized by a deep dive into the quantum properties of materials, often utilizing advanced techniques like angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy to unravel the complexities of electron interactions in those systems.
