Prof. Hernández is a leader in the field of liquid-phase exfoliation of 2D materials. Her work has been highly cited and recently highlighted by Science as one of the key advancements since the discovery of graphene. Prof. Hernández received her bachelor’s degree from Universidad Nacional de Colombia and her PhD from Trinity College Dublin in Ireland. She was a project leader at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Science in Mainz, Germany, with a fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Prof. Hernández is currently associate professor at the Physics Department at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá and currently serves as Vice-Dean of Research and graduate studies at the Faculty on Sciences. She leads the nanomaterials laboratory where the start-up Seebgen was recently born and coordinates the minor program in nanoscience and nanotechnology.
